Ars Nova/Lars Lundehave Hansen: Reformation
St Alban's Church
12th June 17.00
Programme
Ars Nova/Lars Lundehave Hansen: Reformation
Taking the church space as his starting point, Lars Lundehave Hansen has created REFORMATION, a surround sound work for electronics and choir written for the vocal group Ars Nova.
Loudspeakers and singers are placed throughout the room according to the architectural and acoustic form of the church, which is an integral part of the work. The choir forms a vortex of choral textures while the electronics gather and accelerate the pulse of the work. REFORMATION seeks to deliver the intense and unexpected, the overwhelming and exhausting, with catharsis as the ultimate goal. The work operates with ruptures on every level, creating surprising progressions and disharmonic collisions where harmony breaks into smoldering surfaces of noise - like a rumble from the earth's core reaching for the vault of heaven.
