Marcus Lease: An Intense Marble Pink
The 14th of June 2025 marks the five-year anniversary of Composer Marcus Lease’s passing. Lease studied at The Royal Danish Academy of Music and was a part of the Copenhagen new music scene. To mark the occasion, we honor his legacy by hosting a listening session of his sound piece An Intense Marble Pink or: The Break-up (2019). At once humorous and bittersweet, the piece combines spoken word and plunderphonics in a poetic meditation on love and the limits of complementarity. Utilizing Fleetwood Mac’s You Can Go Your Own Way as something akin to a Greek chorus, the piece mechanically alternates between two voices, lending an ominous aura to otherwise innocuous sentences such as “he didn’t go to Brazil with you / you went alone”.
