BørneKlang x Børnekulturhus Ama’r/ Cake of Day: Kagekoncerten

FREE EVENT

The Cake Concert is a journey into a wondrous cake world, where the duo Cake of Day explores the many ways in which one can interact with cake.

The duo plays the recorder and the clarinet, they sing, tell stories and talk to the children about all the things we associate with cake: baking a cake is a way of showing love, a way of caring for each other, a way of celebrating some of life's most important moments, and a way of coming together as a community. A highlight of The Cake Concert is of course the "real" cake, which is decorated, cut, and finally shared with the audience.

Stine Benjaminsen and Mathilde Schelin, who make up the duo Cake Of Day, have made several concerts for children. Their artistic practice is largely based on improvisation, co-creation, and audience involvement, and The Cake Concert, which takes place through a dialogue with the children, is no exception.

The Cake Concert is partly inspired by Australian-born composer Caitlin Rowley's performance piece Cake Piece, in which the seemingly simple act of cutting a cake is transformed through artistic ritualization into something at once comical and mysterious. Even the most mundane actions hide something strange if you really think about them.

The event is presented in collaboration with Børnekulturhus Ama’r.

The project is supported by the Amager Øst Lokaludvalg.

Cake Of Day

Cake Of Day is an experimental woodwind duo founded by composers and musicians Stine Benjaminsen and Mathilde Schelin. Both members have a keen interest in language and literature, and almost all of Cake Of Day’s own works are text-based in some form.
