In just a few years, the trio NEKO3 has proven itself to be one of the most energetic and agenda-setting constellations in contemporary Danish music. The two percussionists Kalle Hakosalo and Lorenzo Colombo, together with pianist Fei Nie, have already premiered several daring works that inventively integrate sound, image and performance.
When they visit this year's KLANG Festival, it is also with a brand new work by Xavier Bonfill on the program. three_four_maybe is a further development of the orchestral work YES FOR NO, but now with a complete focus on a groomed grand piano, remotely controlled by the three musicians and transformed into a mechanical ensemble - all the while three LED light panels show text fragments included as musical material.
Juliana Hodkinson's THRESH is a staged work that explores a visual darkness combined with an object-based approach to sound. For tonight's concert, Hodkinson, in collaboration with NEKO3, worked further on the work and developed a special instrument for the occasion.
