KLANG Festival is ten years old, and Fuzzy just turned eighty – it is celebrated with daily three-minute concerts in Den Sorte Diamant at KLANG Festival 2019. The music is a return to KATALOG written for The Diamond by Fuzzy in 2002.
The electronic music work KATALOG by the composer Fuzzy is an artistically sounding decoration for Den Sorte Diamant, commissioned by The Royal Danish Library in 2002. As a sounding ornament, Every day from 2002 to 2012 for just under three minutes, one of a total of 52 compositions sounded in the well-known atrium with the undulating balconies as a sounding ornament. As an inspiration, astonishment and occasional indignation for the visitors who happened to be in the library's reading room, café or atrium at 1 pm.
The work has a part for each of the 52 weeks of the year, and each part draws inspiration from one of the library's treasures: a manuscript, a photograph, a book or a music score. Thus the composition works in several ways: It marks the passage of time, it reminds us of the music's presence in the library, and it conveys a small section of the collections.
The pieces are played through a permanent computer-controlled 12-channel "speaker orchestra", where each speaker can be programmed with its own "orchestral voice". There are four speakers installed in the ceilings on each of the three balconies.
Parts from the piece KATALOG play on Monday-Saturday from May 30th to June 10. The pieces last three minutes.
"Musik i Skåret" and the composition KATALOG is made possible through funding from Year 2000-Foundation.
