May 30th at 19.30: Athelas and Aavaat (GL) in Tivoli
Led by the French master conductor Pierre-André Valade and in large scale with 27 musicians Athelas Sinfonietta and Aavaat are taking over Tivoli's Concert Hall with a concert in the name of the avangarde. Two distinctive pieces from the 1960s by György Ligeti and Per Nørgård are linked with two world premieres by Niels Rønsholdt and James Black.
Read KLANG's interview with artistic director of Athelas Jesper Lützhøft here.
The concert starts with György Ligeti's Ramifications. It is possible to hear a teaser from the piece for 12 solo strings - one team is tuned a quarter note above the other.
Per Nørgårds Rejse ind i den gyldne skærm is a masterpiece within contemporary music. Athelas has been to the archives and found a couple of good quotes about the piece, its creation and the principles that behind it.
Athelas and KLANG have taken the initiative to order a sister piece to Per Nørgård's Rejse ind i den gyldne skærm. Athelas met with Niels Rønsholdt to a talk about his new piece.
True to tradition Athelas and KLANG have given a young composer the opportunity to write a piece for sinfonietta for the festival concert - this year it is James Black.
James Black debuts from The Royal Danish Academy of Music in 2018, and Athelas met with him to a talk about his new piece RAUS, and if you as a young composer relate to the music tradition, when you want to make a combination of free and well-composed elements, performance and traditional music.
