Klang – Copenhagen Avantgarde Music Festival is Denmark’s biggest, international festival for contemporary music. This is where you go to experience the newest and boldest music, performed by the best international ensembles and soloists.
This year, with over 20 concerts, and just as many world-premieres spread out onto 8 intense festival days in June, KLANG is bigger than ever.
A series of original ensemble concerts makes out the essence of this year’s program, counting international names such as Klangforum Wien(A), Distractfold Ensemble (GB) and Uusinta Ensemble (FI).
Most concerts will be performed at Teater Republique in Østerbro. But not all:
We have established a collaboration with Tivoli, where KLANG’s festival pass (partout card) provides access to two concerts with the legendary music by Steve Reich ‘music for 18 musicians’ and Bent Sørensen’s ‘Rosenbad’.
We know it is summer! And this is why we invite the audience to a very unique concert experience in Fælledparken on Saturday the 11th of June with music, jet engines, bagpipes and hotdogs, followed by an ambitious opening concert by Athelas - Sinfonietta Copenhagen.
On Sunday afternoon we invite the audience to Den Frie Udstillingsbygning where in collaboration with artists, composers, and musicians we have created a talkshow: a concert with Ondes Martenot, water hose connected wind instruments and a Drone Landscape.
Should one be curious to hear the artists talk about their music the stage at Republique, called Reaktor, will be hosting a series of cosy Café-nights with music and conversations among artists.
The festival finishes on no small note with three string quartets on stage. The ensembles, counting the American Mivos String Quartet, offers an attempt to play newly composed Danish quartet works and will be world premiering “All in One” by Pelle Gudmundsen-Holmgreens.
Welcome to KLANG 2016.
